PON Code

PON Code
Position Oriented Navigation Code.

A PON code is a proposed postcode system developed for Ireland that is based on geographic coordinates. A PON Code is a seven character alphanumeric code generated from a longitude and latitude. Each PON code is accurate to ±6 meters and will be used as part of each postal address. It is normally written as three characters, a space followed by four characters.

The first character of a PON code will always be a letter. This letter defines a 100km square. The remaining characters are used to define the position within that 100km square.

PON Codes are proposed for use in Ireland from 2010. Prior to their introduction they were renamed to "Loc8 Code", and consist of 8 digits not the proposed 7.

PON Code is also abbreviated to simply "PONC".
