VMS: 1. VMS is an operating system (OS) from HP. VMS stands for Virtual Memory System. It runs on both VAXs and Alphas - The VAX variant is known as "VAX/VMS" or "VMS VAX" and the Alpha variant is known as "VMS Alpha". The correct full name for VMS is "Open VMS". See also DCL.; 2.
