BIN

BIN
1. Abbreviation for Binary. Either meaning the binary number system (base 2) or binary data.
2. A folder (directory) that contains binary executable programs. For example /bin and /usr/bin on UNIX systems or /cgi-bin for web-servers.
3. A logical container holding sets of data (or items/objects) that have been sorted by some criteria. GIS applications (such as MapInfo) allow data to be grouped into bins (i.e. ranges).
4. Bank Identification Number.
