Windows Media Player will play subtitles (.srt files) when playing the video file (.avi), although this configuration option may need to be enabled. Other .avi players may also play .srt files.
Some .srt files may be named to reflect the language they contain. For example movie.eng.srt for English, or movie.spa.srt for Spanish. A suitable player should then allow you to switch between subtitle languages.
