.avi file extension

.avi
Audio Video Interleave (AVI) file, used for Windows based movies. AVI files are media files which contain both audio and video.

Occasionally a .avi file will have subtitles stored in a separate .srt file. This has the advantage (over including subtitles as part of the video presentation) in that it allows the media player to turn subtitles on or off.

For more information see:

  • www.camstudio.org - Site for a free tool for creating AVI files by capturing screen and audio activity on a computer, used typically for creating AVI video presentations.
Download Filestar to convert .avi files. Filestar is an universal file converter for Windows that supports over 600 different file types.
