- Windows on Windows 64 bit. WoW64 is a Windows subsystem that runs on 64
bit Windows to enable 32 bit Windows applications to run in the 64 bit
operating system.
WoW64 redirects request for 32bit DLLs to
%SystemRoot%\sysWOW64. Whilst unintuitive, the folder%SystemRoot%\System32provides 64 bit versions. Apparently the justification for placing 64 bit code in%SystemRoot%\System32is for compatibility reasons.
