1. A two or three text character sequence intended to convey emotion, gestures or expressions.

Also known as an emoticon.

Common smileys are:

:)	or	:-)	Happy, or happy face.
:(	or	:-(	Sad.
		:O	Yelling
;)	or	;-)	Wink
		=P	Cheeky/playful tongue sticking out.
		;-)	Winking
		:-P	Tongue sticking out
		=-O	Surprised
		:-*	Kissing
		B-)	Cool
		:-$	Money mouth
		:-!	Foot in mouth
		:-[	Embarrassed
		O:-)	Angel
		:-\	Undecided
		:'(	Crying
		:-X	Lips are sealed
		:-D	Laughing
		o_O	Confused

Some systems will render smileys using a suitable graphic image.
