Thinking about the computer that you want to remotely control, is it protected by a firewall? (Be aware that many routers, which allow an internet connection to be shared amongst several computers, normally incorporate simple firewall functions.)

It is connected directly to the internet, but is not protected by a firewall.

There is no firewall between the computer to be controlled and the computer that it is to be controlled from and they are both on the same local area network (LAN)

The computer is protected by a firewall and I can configure it to allow access (or arrange for any necessary firewall configuration).

The computer is protected by a firewall - but I am unable to configure it nor arrange for any necessary firewall configuration.
