WIMP

WIMP
1. Windows, IIS, MySQL and PHP.

The term WIMP is used to describe a web based solution produced using PHP (scripting), MySQL (database), IIS (web-server) running on Windows (operating system). Whilst Windows has a financial cost, PHP and MySQL are free to download and IIS is included with Windows. WIMP therefore describes a low cost website solution running on Windows. cf LAMP.

2. Window, Icon, Menu, Pointer (or Window, Icon, Menu, Pointing device). WIMP is a style of computer interface. The term WIMP is considered outdated and its use has been superseded by the term GUI.
