Brian Cryer's Glossary of IT Terms with Links
- 1. Someone's name, written in their (usual) own handwriting.
- 2. A line or block of text (which may, depending on the e-mail client, include
formatting), that is appended at the bottom of an outgoing email, newsgroup
posting or forum message. Sometimes abbreviated to "sig",
"sig block" or "sig file". A signature usually contains information about the
poster, such as their name and email address. Some signatures instead contain
quotations or simple art.
Some e-mail clients will recognise signatures, provided they are separated from the body of the post by two hyphens followed by a space and a new-line, for example.:
Some message ... -- My Name contact me at: ...
