Signature

Signature
1. Someone's name, written in their (usual) own handwriting.
2. A line or block of text (which may, depending on the e-mail client, include formatting), that is appended at the bottom of an outgoing email, newsgroup posting or forum message. Sometimes abbreviated to "sig", "sig block" or "sig file". A signature usually contains information about the poster, such as their name and email address. Some signatures instead contain quotations or simple art.

Some e-mail clients will recognise signatures, provided they are separated from the body of the post by two hyphens followed by a space and a new-line, for example.:
