Serial Attached SCSI.

Whilst SAS drives share the same physical size as standard SATA drives (with a different interface), they do have advantages over (the cheaper) SATA drives:

  • SAS drives typically spin at 10,000 or 15,000RMP, whereas SATA drives typically spin at 7200RPM.
  • They have the same standard MTBF as SATA drives despite spinning faster.
