- IDS
- Intrusion Detection System. A system for detecting (unauthorised)
intrusions into a network or individual computer.
An Intrusion Detection
System will typically either:
- monitor log files to detect intrusions on a single computer. This is
known as a Host based IDS (HIDS).
- or, will employ a packet sniffer to monitor network traffic to
attempt to detect intrusions on a network. This is known as a Network
based IDS (NIDS).
