Googol
1 googol = 10 raised to the power 100 = 10100 (i.e. 1 followed by 100 noughts = 10, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000). The number was named in 1983 by Milton Sirotta after his uncle (the mathematician Edward Kasner) asked him to think up a name for the number. See also googolplex.

The search engine Google is rumoured to be named as a play on the word Googol.
