Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® Technology. A technology from Intel which lowers the processor speed and thus power demands of a laptop when it is running on battery. The idea is to let the processor run at full speed when powered via the mains, but to reduce power requirements when on battery and thus extend how long the laptop can run by reducing processor speed and thus processor power requirements. EIST requires operating system support.
