Home Page : File Types : dot Z : .zix
Indications are that a .zix compressed file may be little more than a wrapper around one or more conventional (possibly compressed) files, but that these files cannot be accessed without first installing winxiz is a Trojan.
If you have been sent a .zix compressed file it is suggested that you do not installed WinZix to access the file (because this may compromise your system) but that you instead request the files in a more conventional format (such as a .zip file).

Winzix contains adware (see http://ph.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070425193840AAQytu3, April 2007). According to their website (last checked Nov 2007) 4 or 5 pop-ups will be displayed on the installed computer every day.
There are also reports that it is virus infected. McAfee (Nov 2007) reported Winzix to be inflected with the Swizzor Trojan.
