.vrml file extension

.vrml
Virtual Reality Modelling Language file.

A .vrml file contains a representation of a 3-dimensional (3D) interactive model. The 3D model is written using VRML. The file format was developed with the World Wide Web in mind, with the hope that users would be able to interact with a virtual reality using their web browser.

Since .vrml files are text files they are often compressed when transmitted across the internet, and when compressed it is more common for them to then use the .wrz file extension.

cf .wrl, .wrz.

Before 1995, .vrml files (Virtual Reality Modelling Language files) were known as Virtual Reality Markup Language files.

VRML has been superseded by X3D (see .x3dv, .x3d and .x3db).
