A .ssa file is used when exporting a project from a Source Safe repository to a file. It can be opened and re-imported using Microsoft Source Safe.

2. SubStation Alpha file.

A SubStation Alpha file (often abbreviated to simply SSA) is a file format for storing sub-titles.
