.iso file extension

.iso
Image of a CD, DVD or blu-ray.

A .iso file is based on the ISO 9660 CD-ROM file system standard. The .iso file contains an image of a CD, and most CD writing software will provide the option to burn a CD using a .iso image.

Many CD/DVD drive emulators exist which will also allow you to take a .iso file and mount it so that you can browse the .iso file as though it were mounted in a CD/DVD drive.

For more information see:

Download Filestar to convert .iso files. Filestar is an universal file converter for Windows that supports over 600 different file types.
