MapInfo index file. This file provides mappings that links data to objects, the file therefore contains pointers into a .map file.

A .id file is a binary file and the format of this file is proprietary to MapInfo. The role of the file is to provide mappings that link data to objects. The file  the file therefore contains pointers into a .map file.
