.db

1. Generic database file.

2. Borland Paradox database file.

3. Thumbnail cache file, used by Windows XP and later to hold a cached thumbnail view of the image files in the same folder as the file.

Thumbs.db

Windows XP generates a file called "Thumbs.db" to hold cached thumbnail view information. This file is only visible if you have selected the folder view option "Show hidden files and folders" and deselected the option "Hide protected operating system files".

The "Thumbs.db" file can be deleted to save space, and Windows will recreated it if a thumbnail view is required of the folder.

To prevent Windows from generation a Thumbs.db file on Windows XP: Go to Control Panel > Folder Options > View and check "Do not cache thumbnails"
