TrueCrypt is an open source application for encrypting data.

TrueCrypt allows for the encryption of individual files or even entire volumes. Files once encrypted can only be accessed with the correct password. TrueCrypt gives the appearance of mounting a volume so files can then be read or updated just as though they were on a normal disk.
