.log2: 1. Generic log file. This is a generic file extension and may be used by a number of different applications.
A .log2 file is typically a text file, but this may vary according to the application which generates it. Typically a .log2 file will be generated in those instances where a .log1 and a .log file also exists but is used for a different purpose or has different information logged to it.; 2. Windows Registry hive log file. The .log2 file is used to record the changes made to one of the Windows Registry hives.
This file (together with a .log1 file) will be found in the folder %SystemRoot%\System32\config. The exception to this is the user data hive (ntuser.data.log2) which is maintained separately for each user in %UserProfile%.
