1. DownLoad Manager file. This file contains information which defines a download for Microsoft's File Transfer Manager (FTM).

When downloading files the .dlm file defines what files are to be downloaded, it does not contain those files.

Files of type .dlm are used by Microsoft for some downloads. Internet Explorer will automatically download a plug-in to deal with .dlm files and thereafter .dlm files on the web will automatically invoke the desired file transfer. Other browsers may not be able to handle the file type automatically.

2. Akamai Download Manager partial download file. The file is built up by Akamai Download Manager as it downloads a file from the internet. When the download is complete the file will be renamed without the .dlm file extension.

Adobe uses Akamai Download Manager to manage large downloads from the Adobe website.

3. Autodesk 3ds Max file. File used by 3ds Max, from Autodesk. The file is a scene modifier file.
