.bat file extension

.bat
MS-DOS batch file.

A .bat file is a text file which contains a list of simple DOS commands. The file can be executed in a DOS environment, and the instructions on each line are executed in the order they are listed. Batch files can also be executed in any Microsoft Windows environment.

From Windows 2000 onwards, batch files whilst still supported, have been superseded by command files (.cmd).

Can you add to this? Do you know of any applications not already listed which will work with .bat files, view .bat files or open .bat files? Are you able to contribute any additional reference information or file format information about .bat files or have you spotted any errors or omissions? If so please let us know by emailing us at feedback@cryer.co.uk - Thank you.
